Diego & Ana Paula dy Carlos

Brazil

Diego is a research lecturer in New Testament at Martin Bucer Seminary, in São José dos
Campos, SP. With over 400 students in their BA programme and just over 700 students enrolled
in various online programmes, SMB (in Portuguese) is one of the largest seminaries in the
country. The board of directors share my vision for raising and training Brazilian Biblical
scholars. Accordingly, they have tasked me with designing a centre for Biblical research focused
on the original languages and exegesis — one of the most pressing needs in Brazil. As part of
this plan, I have developed two ThM programmes (OT Interpretation and Theology, and NT
Interpretation and Theology) which commenced in 2025, in collaboration with TH.

As a further expression of this vision, Diego founded the Brazilian Academy of Biblical Studies in
2025, a network dedicated to identifying, encouraging, and equipping the next generation of
Brazilian biblical scholars. The Academy already has more than 60 members from across the
country. He has also led annual research trips to Tyndale House, Cambridge, in the summers of
2025 and 2026, taking groups of promising young Brazilian scholars to deepen their research,
build international partnerships, and experience the unique scholarly environment of Tyndale
House firsthand.

Alongside his academic work, Diego is increasingly invited to speak at churches, conferences,
and ministry events across Brazil, where he seeks to serve the church through faithful biblical
exposition and theological teaching.
He is also leading the development of IScriptura, a long-term initiative designed to cultivate a
sustainable ecosystem of biblical scholarship in Brazil through research, mentoring,
scholarships, publications, language training, and international partnerships.
